ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
VERDICT AT INQUEST At an inquest at Palmerston North yesterday into the death of Percival Penley Drake, aged 64, of Shannon, at the Palmer: ton North Hospital on April 23rd), the Coroner (Mr. A. J. Graham) returned a verdict that death was due to respiratory paralysis following a fracture of the spine, accidentally received.
Harvey Patrick Adams, a farm labourer of Shannon, in evidence said that at 3.15 p.m. on April 15th he was assisting in top-dressing on his brother's farm at Shannon, 'where Tie i's employed. Deceased, grandfather of witness, was handing witness bags of lime for the distributor, and while doing so overbalanced and fell to the ground, the left wheel of the distributor passing over his stomach. Charles Joseph Adams, share-milker of Shannon, brother of the previous witness, gave corroborative evidence, stating that he was the driver of a lorry with a distributor attached. When the accident occurred the lorry would be going at a speed of about six miles an hour. It was immediately stopped. The Coroner gave his finding, as stated, after hearing medical evidence.
