GOOD SHOOTING AT OTAKI.
LIMIT BAG SECURED Otaki is regarded as one of the best of the shooting districts for duck and the season this year proved no exception, good bags being secured in various parts. Shooting on Mr. A. D. Webster's lake, a party of eight all secured the limit on the opening morning, and iilso enjoyed good shooting the following day. Ducks were even more numerous than last season, and sportsmen, including a number from a distance,
were very keen. Several sportsmen ventured as far as the Tararuas and here they secured good bags, several securing the limit. "The next generation won't know what a duck is," said one sportsman of : many years' experience, when referring to the fact that ducks were scarcer ; than ever. "There should be a close season for them," he said. "The drainage of swamps has destroyed their ! feeding grounds. Lagoons that formerly were frequented by ducks and swans have now been pumped dry." He said he had never known ducks to be as ' scarce as they were this season. _*JT_. —' _ ' --''
