LABOUR PARTY'S ACTIVITIES.
MEETING- AT OTAKI At Raukawa dining .hall, Otaki, during last week, the usual monthly meeting of L.R.C. delegates from the various branches of the Otaki electorate assembled to the number of 60. Several guests and six L.R.C. lady delegates. Among the guests were Mr. J. Roberts (president of the N.Z. Labour Party), Mr. 'John Flood (president of the N.Z. Waterside Workers' Union), Mr. G. Thomas, of Gisborne, and Mr. Simpson, visiting Labour delegate. Mr. R. Downes occupied the- chair and on behalf of the L.R.C. welcomed the visitors. The principal feature of the day's business was an inspiring address delivered by Mr. J. Roberts, in which he urged all those associated with the Labour Party's movement and its ideals, to come to the front line and offer their personal support in the projected establishment of a Labour daily newspaper in Wellington at the earliest moment in the interests of the large majority of the people so that more equitable and unprejudiced reports upon political matters especially, may be made known. This is found necessary in order to combat unfair criticism by the existing press.. It is proposed to eventually extend Labour daily newspapers to the four central cities.
After speaking for fully an hour, Mr. Roberts was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his kindness in visiting Otaki, the seconder being Mr Murrow, of Shannon. This was ■curried by enthusiastic acclamation. The six lady L.R.C. members present helped to serve lunch and afternoon tea'on the commodious premises. At the conclusion a vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Downes, the members expressing pleasure and appreciation of the conduct and harmonious conditions that existed throughout the meeting.
