HEAVY HOLIDAY TRAFFIC.

SEVERAL ACCIDENTS REPORTED TWO MEN INJURED.

Throughout the Easter holidays the highways were thronged with a particularly large volume of traffic. The peak was undoubtedly reached yesterday afternoon and evening when pleasure seekers returned from trips further afield.

Several accidents occurred in this district, but nobody was injured except in one ease, a car striking the left-hand side of the new overhead railway bridge, north of Manakau, about 5 p m. yesterday. As a result Mr. Donald Wilson, carpenter, aged 39, of Ohau, was admitted to the Palmerston NorthHospital with head injuries and possibly broken ribs. His injuries were stated to be serious. Mr. Kenneth Sevan suffered cuts to the face and abrasions, but he Avas able to return to his home. -

Mr. Bevan Avas the driver of the car, Mr. Wilson being a passenger in the back seat. The car Avas travelling north, and on striking the bridge it carried away a portion of the coping. The ear then swung across the deck of the bridge and damaged part of the railing on the right-hand side. It came to rest some distance from where it first struck, facing in the opposite direction, but did not capsize.
