RUGBY QUEEN CARNIVAL.
UNION’S FIRST APPEAL. Tiie queen carnival launched last Saturday by the llorowhcnua Rugby Union marks the first occasion o» which an appeal has been made to the public to assist the promotion of the sport of Rugby in this district. As the game has grown from strength t» strength over a lengthy period of years, the union has been able to proyid# facilities for it and thus give pleasurable recreation to hundreds of young men.
For a considerable time the administration has anticipated the day when it would have its own ground and be able to make full provision for the sport. A lease of a suitable propertyin Weraroa Road has been obtained and already the union has spent a sum of approximately £250 on laying out piaying fields. To-day the union comes te the public for assistance in providing funds for the erection of a gymnasium and dressing sheds, with 'showers, lockers and other necessary adjuncts. A carnival has been organised and an appeal is made for it to bo given a full measure of support.
