DEFINITION OF EIGHTS. INQUIRY COMMITTEE TO BE FORMED. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 28. Mr. Neville Chamberlain stated in the House of Commons that a Select Committee is being formed to inquire into the Official Secrets Act. Mr. Hore Bclisha announced that he is immediately doubling the Air Defence personnel to 100,000, as compared with 2000 -in 1935.
A British Official Wireless message received yesterday stated that an important question relating to the privileges of members of Parliament in relation to action under the Official Secrets Act was raised in the House of Commons. As a result of this a motion has been tabled in the following terms 1 That a Select Committee of the House be appointed to inquire into the substance of a statement made on June 27th by the member for Norwood and the action of the Minister concerned, and generally into the question of the applicability of the Official Secrets Act to members of this House in the discharge of their Parliamentary duties.”
