An announcement that the Federal Government intended to increase its defence expenditure during the present financial year to enable it to accelerate the defence programme was made by Mr. Thorby (Minister of Defence). Mr. Thorby said the Government had decided to spent £35,000,000 on defence in the next quinquennium, of which the sum of £11,500,000 had been voted for expenditure this year.
