IMPROVED APPRENTICESHIP POSITION.
LABOUR MINISTER’S STATEMENT (By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night. The apprenticeship position in New •Zealand has improved greatly, declared the Minister of Labour, Hon. H. T. Armstrong, when interviewed to-day. 'lnformation was now being gained throughout the Dominion as to the totai ordinary apprentices in various trades and, when these returns were completed, they expected to show that the present year will prove a record; in fact the figures at the present time indicate the number of ordinary contracts entered into for the past eight months at approximately the same as the number of apprentices taken on in a normal year. Referring to the legislation last session dealing with young men who missed their opportunities during the depression, Mr. Armstrong said thau to date 363 special contracts had been entered into, while a large number Ol | other cases were under investigation.
