NEW HOTEL WORKERS' AWARD.
FIVE PER GENT. INCREASE. IN WAGES

WELLINGTON, Last Night. . ) After a five days hearing'in the Conciliation Council a complete agreement was; reached on Saturday in the licensed ■ hotels employees ’ dispute ' before Alf; S. Eichicj conciliation commissioner. ■ Air. W, J. Alountjoy, secretary of the Wellington Employers’ Association, was ■ agent for the employers and AIL F. G. Voting for the workers ' It was decided.'that the;hours of work be 40 a weelt ..to ,:be worked within five ; and: a-half days in each week. Overtime is to be paid for at pne ; and a-quar.- ■ - ter (tinies ortljnary, rates for.. the*'first ‘ ’ four hours and' twice _ttie ordinary ratethereafter.. The usual statutory’ holi-- ■ .flays.-are to be observed and overtime is to be paid for work on those- days. Provision was made for nine ’days'-’ holiday annually on full pay on comof 12 months’ service;' -In 1 the country* districts the usual weekly holidays can be accumulated over a period of three months. ... b . The scale pf wages agreed upon was the same as the 1936 award rates, plus five per cent, except in the case of kitehenmen whose..wage was increased to £2 15s a week plus board anddodging. The rates for casual workers were in- . creased five per cent, on the 1936 .award and for workers employed on special occasions the increase has been more than five per cent, in some' cases.The new award as far as wage alterations are concerned; comesinto, force on August 1, 1937, and has a duration; ' of one year.
