CAR PLUNGES 90 FEET.

FOUR PEOPLE INJURED. HOSPITAL HILL ACCIDENT (By Telegraph —Press Association.) NAPIER, July- 18. As a result of a ear crashing over a 90-foot drop at Hospital hill, Napier, shortly before 9 o’clock last night, three people are inmates o-L-the Napier Hospital suffering from severe shock and extensive injuries. They are not~ serious, however, ancKtheir condition is satisfactory. A little before 9 o ’clock Air. D. AlcDonald, of Pakowhai, accompanied by Air. H. Gibson, arrived at the nurses' home to take the former’s sister and

another nurse, Aliss Crawford, to a dance. When about 50 or 60 yards from the home gates along the extension of Napier terrace; the ear left the road and crashed through the fence to topple over the very , steep incline, roll over at least half a dozen times, to finally come to , rest with the wheels uppermost in Goldsmith road. The drop was about 90 feet and once the car overbalanced on the edge of '“the incline there was nothing to obstruct it or’stop its rolling down the bann.

Ail four people in' the car were badly shaken and bruised. Aliss Crawford escaped the lightest, receiving only minor cuts and injuries, but her three companions were admitted to the hospital. Both Air. and Aliss AlcDonald were the more seriously injured, they receiving head and body injuries. The car, which was a heavy tourer type, was almost completely wrecked.

PEDESTRIAN SERIOUSLY HURT HASTINGS, July 18. Following being knocked down oy a car near the Waitangi bridge, on the main Hastings-Napier road shortly after. 6 o’clock last night, Mr. Thomas William Humphreys,.teamster, of Waitangi, is lying in the Hastings Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in a very critical condition. ' Mr.. Humphreys was walking along the of the road between the two new bridges near the new mouth of the Tutaekuri river, when he was run into by a car driven by Air. Dudley Robert Petrowskie, of Ellison road, Hastings, who was driving in the. direction of Napier. Air. Humphreys .. was thrown heavily to the ground and suffered ia fractured skull, and laceration of the brain. He was taken to the hospital by a passing car, as that of Mr. Petrowskie’s had broken down as the result of the accident. As far as is known Air. Humphreys is a bachelor, residing normally at Bay-' view, but is.engaged as a teamster by Air. T. Alacken, on the, river diversion work at Waitangi and is camping in that vicinity. , ,

PASSENGER IN HOSPITAL <■- HASTINGS, July 18. Concussion -and injuries to shoulder and head were suffered by Air. John L. Dunn, of Pepper street, Hastings, last evening as the result of a motor accident near Te Hauke. He was admitted to the Hastings Soldiers’ Alemorial Hospital and his condition, though serious, is considered satisfactory. , iMr. Dunn was a passenger in a car driven by Air. Frank ' Newrick and shortly before 8 o ’clock the car left-the main Napier-Palmerston ' North and crashed into a telephone pole. Air. Dunn was the more seriously , injured, Air. Newrick escaping with just minor bruises and a severe shaking. r

The car was fairly extensively damaged.
