EMPLOYMENT TAXATION.
Elsewhere in this issue appears an intimation by the Commissioner of Taxes that on May Ist the usual quarterly instalment of the Begistration Levy will become due, and that on the same date will also fall due the first instalment of the Employment Charge of Sd. in the £ on income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended March 81st, 1937. All male persons, including Natives, of 20 years or age or over are required in May each year to furnish declarations of income other than salary or wages. If no such income is derived a "nil" declaration is required. A woman of 20 years or over whose income other than salary or wages exceeds £SO must also furnish a declaration in respect of her incrv-.-. 'Hiis applies also to Native worn"- 1 Fall information and declaration forms are obtainable at all money-order offices, and payment of the Erapl .yment Charge should be made at a 10.-al post office or to the Commissioner, Employment Tax Division, Land and Income Tax Department, Wellington, C.l. It is pointed out that persons wiio fail to furnish declarations as and when required render themselves liable on summarv conviction to a line of £SO. A penalty equal to 10 per cent .oi : the amount of tax due will be added to any instalment not paid within one month of the due date.
