POWER BOARD REPAIRS.
» UP-TO-DATE SYSTEM FOR AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) 1 AUCKLAND, Last Night.
Repair work carried out by the Auckland Electric Power Board will be. greatly facilitated shortly by the use ot: two-way radio communication for which official permission has been given. The proviso that the wave length fixed at J 8:1.9 metres may be reserved lor similar public, utility services raises the question of the extension of such radio communication particularly in relation to ambulance work. At a meeting of the board the general manager reported that the Post-master-General following a recent interview had favourably considered the representations made by the board regarding two-way radio communication between service trucks and the central station. “1 propose to follow this matter up without delay and obtain the, necessary license,” said the manager. ‘‘l also intend to bring before the board as soon as possible full details of the equipment and an estimate of the. cost. The board would be able to obtain a license allowing for the operation of a private station and two trucks equipped with receiving and transmitting sets, while the same wave length could be used by other power boards who intended to use me radio. There was little danger of interference or congestion. ’ ’ Tiie chairman, Mr. IT. J, floldsworth, said the use of the radio in this fashion would be a tremendous boon to the outer reticulated area. The radic would boot the greatest advantage daring a storm period and faults would, be rectified with greater speed. It was good to know that the board was not: going to be allowed to use up-to-date--equipment.
