SOLDIER SETTLERS. REMITS APPROVED. Various problems facing returned soldiers who became farmers after the Avar Avere considered by the annual [conference of the Ncav Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association this Aveek Avhen remits dealing Avith land matters Avere discussed. A remit asking headquarters to press for clearances in Avriting for all returned soldiers Avho have been forced to abandon their holdings under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act Avas carried, although the committee
that reported on the remits did not recommend it. A remit from the Northern Wairoa Association asking that the Government should take over, Avhere required, all mortgages given by discharged soldiers to mortgagees other than the mortgagee under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act and bring such mortgages under the provisions of the Act, Avas adopted after the words “wherever the amount of such mortgage is within the limits of the valuation acceptable under the Act,” had been added. A remit asking that, in vieAv of the price for farming produce being fixed to meet present and future commitmeuts, all arrears OAving by ex-serA Tieement to the CroAvn should be remitted, lAvas carried.
