"Remarkable scenes followed a water main burst in the centre of London on Wednesday. The neighbouring streets were soon several feet deep with a swirling tide which swept Into shops, Hooded cellars and brought traffic to a standstill. The tramway tunnel from Kingsway to the Embankment was flooded and a dislocation of the tramway service resulted over a considerable area. America’s Colossal Debt. A Washington message states that the Treasury statement of June .15 reveals a record public debt of 34,331,255,000 dollars compared with 28,700,000,00(1 dollars at June 15, 1935. The financing of the veterans’ bonus is partially responsible.
