AN IMPRESSIVE TRIBUTE.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR W. G. VICKERS.

In truly magnificent testimony to the esteem and (popularity in which had been regarded one o'f the best-,known, gentlemen of the district, and in wholehearted sympathy to tho bereaved family, the funeral of the late Mr W. G. Vickers, which took place at the Levin Cemetery yesterday afternoon was perhaps the largest yet seen in Levin. Comprised of almost 130 vehicles, the cortege included amongst the mourners, representatives of all interests, not only of this town and district, but from other outside areas, visitors, prominent amongst whom were numerous representatives from various centres of the Wellington Meat Export Co., who were present from as far afield as Pahiatua, Pannevirkc, Taihape, Marten, Feilding, Palmerston North, Featherston and Wellington. Leaving the residence, where the pall-bearers were Messrs N. G. Vickers, D. W. Vickers and G. 11. Vickers (sons), and E. R. Vickers, R. V. Brown and D. V. Brown (nephews), the cortege proceeded to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, which was filled to overflowing for the short service conducted by Rev. J. C. Davies. From the church Messrs P. R. Stansell and T. Lomas (brothers-in-law, Wellington), R. J. Foss, H. Denton, and G. D. Hamilton (Masonic Lodge), and Mr A. Hubbard, of Masterton, acted as bearers. The cortege, now swelled by numerous extra ears, proceeded to the Cemetery, the hearse being followed by a lorry laden with a beautiful array of floral tributes. The coffin was carried to its last resting place by Messrs E. P. C. Swainson and W, White (Wellington Meat Export Co.), F. Kilsby (Horowhenua A. and P. Association), H. Johnson (Druids’ Lodge), and W. C. Stannard and E. M. Ryder (Levin Racing Club). The burial service, conducted by Rev. J. C. Davies, was followed by that of the Masonic Lodge, which was road by Bros. E. E. Hirst and F. 11, Hudson.

Among tlic impressive array of floral tributes wore wreaths from the Wellington .Meat, Export Co.. the Masonic, Lodge, the Druids’ Lodge, the Vestry of iSt. .Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Guild, the Levin Racing Club, Foxton Racing Club, the Horowhenua A. and P. Association, the Manawatu and West Const A. and P. Association, the, Wairarapa A. and P. Association, the Levin branch of the Manawatu Hunt Club, Levin 'Band, staff of Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., Levin, Levin Gentlemen’s Club, Levin Bowling Club, and staff of the Bank of ■New Zealand, Levin.
