HIGH SCHOOL MOVEMENT.
COUNTY COUNCIL APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVES ON COMMITTEE.
A letter, advising that a special committee had been set up to consider the establishment of a high school at Levin, was received at the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua 'County Council on 'Saturday. The letter ashed the Council for its support and would be glad if the Chairman and one councillor was appointed to cooperate with the other local interests in the proposal. The Chairman, Mr G-. A. Monk, stated that he did not know very much about the movement, ,but there were one or two factors that had brought the necessity for a high school into prominence recently. Levin, as a centre serving a wide district from Paraparaumu to Shannon, had at its school over 200 secondary pupils and as a result of large increases lately they had pushed some of the primary pupils out of their rooms into halls away from the main building, which had been rented for the purpose. If all the pupils were to be brought back under one roof a high school would have to be established. As one of the leading local bodies he thought the Council shouldj iaet (in conjunction with the other bodies. These were only the preliminary steps, but it had been thought wise not to lose the present opportunity. The Council represented a wide district and there had been moves at Shannon and Otaki for district high schools, 'but the two should not bo confused as they were quite different in status.
On the motion of Cr. F. J. Ryder, seconded by Or. A. M. Colquhouu, tho Chairman and Cr. Giniblett were delegated to represent the Council.
