The sum of £ll 9s (kl was taken at the doors of the Otaki 11. and D. Society on Friday. The show was regarded as the most successful for some time.

At a meeting of the Otaki Borough Council on 'Friday night the Works Committee recommended that action be taken against the practice of lishermen dumping fish heads, etc., on the beach. —The recommendation received the support of all Councillors.

Air and Airs Doyle, who have been residents of Otaki for some time, have decided to take up residence in Waikanao. Prior to leaving they were entertained at an afternoon at the residence of Airs J. L. Kilmister. Air and Airs Doyle carry with them the best wishes of a large circle of friends.

Air and Airs W. Coulter, who have been residents of Otaki for some considerable time, have left to take ut> residence at Woodville, carrying with thorn the best wishes of many friends. Air 'Coulter has taken an active interest in alt branches of sport here, 'While Mrs Coulter has identified herself with various organisations in the town, therefore they will be greatly missed.

At Friday night’s meeting of the Otaki Borough Council, Air Stanley Natusch, architect, of Wellington, attended, and submitted plans of the proposed municipal buildings. They were discussed and various- suggestions made. It was decided that they be shown to the library committee, after which the Council would again gß'ethem consideration.

A man named James Taylor was apprehended liy Constable Satherlcy on, Thursday night and on Friday he appeared 'before Mr H. Nicolson, JfP., charged with drunkenness. The Constable stated that as the result of a telephonic message lie proceeded to a house in Waorenga Hoad, where he found that Taylor had been troublesome. In consequence of his behaviour he was taken in charge. A hue of 5s was inflicted.

There Avas a splendid attendance at the social held in the Otaki Railway theatre on Saturday night and all spent a very pleasant time. Dancing was kept going -merrily to the fine music of Sharps’ orchestra, Mr. Rule proved a capable M.C., while the floor,, as usual, was in great order. Mr. Quinn and Miss Patching won the Monte Carlo one-step competition and Mr. Moss and Miss Synnott the foxtrot competition. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs. Aomarere and Mr. Ossian Ryder (firsts), and Mrs. Higgott and Mr. W. Oootes (seconds).

There.was a splendid attendance at the dance at Te Horo on Friday night, held for the purpose* of raising funds for the Palmerston North free ambulance. Larkins’ orchestra supplied the best of music, the floor was highly polished, Mrs Royal supplied a first class supper, and Mr J. MeLeavey was an able MX). Extras Avere capably played iby Miss Utiku, Miss Parata, and Mr Winiata. The spot waltz, competition Avas won by Miss Taylor and Mr C. Burt, the Monte Carlo by Miss L. Capcwell and Mr E. Box, and the box of chocolates, kindly donated by Mrs Royal, by Mr C. Jones, of Otaki.

The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital on Wednesday of Mr Reginald John Ryder, aged 64 years The late Mr Ryder, who was born in Saltash, Cornwall, England, was engaged in a bakery ‘business at Paraparaumn for about fourteen years. He was well-known and highly respected in that district and was one of the foundation members of the Paraparaumu Masonic Lodge. He was (keenly interested in all branches of sport and his many friends will regret to learn of his death. He was a single man and had been in Masterton for the past few months, the last three weeks of which he had been a patient in the Masterton Hospital. The late Mr Ryder is survived by a brother, Mr H. H, Ryder, of R-emuera, Auckland, and formerly well-known in the Langdale district, and two sisters, Mosdames A. Tuekett, Whakataki, and A. Dryden, England. The funeral took place on Friday at Masterton and was largely attended.
