FARMERS’ PICNIC.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING-. Favoured by excellent weather, the farmers’ picnic held yesterday on Mr R. Gore’s property at the Ohau River at Kimberley, was attended by upwards of 200 persons, representing the district from Palmerston North to Te Horo. Under the auspices of the Manawatu Executive of the N.Z, Farmers’ Union and the Women’s Division, these bodies were well represented. The day was passed in bathing and sports of different kinds, catering for the tastes of young and old alike. A tug-of-war competition between teams under the names of Levin, Manakau, Kimberley, and Ihakara, was eventually won by the Levin side, consisting of Messrs F. Kilsby, Mexted, C. Adkin, and Tait. Hot water arrangements were in the capable hands of Mr H. J. Richards and Miss Richards. Mr J. MeLeavey, Provincial president of the Manawatu Executive, accompanied by Mrs MeLeavey, were present and during the day Mr MeLeavey welcomed the visitors and said that the farmers should, make this an annual gathering, expressing the desirability for more such functions, which brought farmers of different dis- | tricts together. The outing proved to ( be very suceessful'and all present spent a thoroughly enjoyable .time.
