SOCKBURN-ASHBURTQN RACE
CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 23
A total of thirty-live riders started fronr* Sock burn in the 100-mile road race, run under the auspices of the Canterbury Cycling Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Association.

A light breeze was blowing when nie first man left Sockburn, but the riders found the warm weather rather trying. A. Parkin, A. Day, R. bay, Robertson, Matthews and Adaiuson were the first to reach Ash burton, and turned for homo at 12.43 p.m., having covered the outward journey in 2 hours 33 minutes.
Coping's machine met with a bad mishap at Rakaia and he suffered a badly cut hand in the accident. McAlister made the pace too hot to for about 40 miles, and turned it in turning back'for Christcliurch. '.'.
