i KOPUTAROA WINS FINAL. i I DRUIDS' iSUCCESSFUL EVENING. The tug-of-war .unci dance under the auspices of the Druids' Lodge, held in the Regent Hall on Friday evening last was an outstanding success from every point of view. There was n very large attendance -and the sociable atmosphere noticeable from the outset contributed a great deal towards the enjoyment of all who attended. Much interest centred on the tug-of-war competitions, for which fifteen teams were entered. A specially built stage, risen 2ft. Gin. from the floor, enabled all present to secure a good view of the pulls and some exciting contests were witnessed. The winning team, Koputaroa were outstanding, but their opponents in the final, Aokautere, put up a very creditable performance to reach that stage, ns they were the lightest team in the competition. Tlie pulls generally were fairly even, particularly so were the Ashlea v. Taylor Bros, and Fire Brigade v. Power Board contests. The tug-of-war results were as follows: FIRST ROUND", b'ire Brigade (48.0) defeated Power Board (45.10). Paiaka (47.1) defeated TJie Triers (46.5). # Taylor Bros. (47.:?) defeated Ashlea ' (48.0). Mangahao (48.0) defeated Vickcrs (48.0). Aokautere A (45.2) defeated Ohau (47.9). Whakaronga (47.12) defeated The 'Mugs (45.11). Aokautere B forfeited to Manakau (40.12). Koputaroa (47.12) a bye. SECOND ROUND. Koputaroa beat Taylor Bros. Fire Brigade beat Manakau. Aokautere beat Whakarongo. Mangahao beat Paiaka. S®MI-FINAL. Koputaroa beat Fire Brigade. Aokautere beat Mangahao. FINAL. Koputaroa beat Aokautere. Mangahao defeated Fire Brigade for third. - Mr Kernohan, of Koputaroa, acted ns judge, Messrs Mungavin and Johnson as timekeepers, while Messrs Bagrie and Joblin were in charge of the scales. At the conclusion of the tug-of-war, the prize money was handed to the winners by Mr T. Blanchette, who congratulated them an their success. Cheers were then given for the winners, who in turn honoured their competitors. After a bountiful supper, dispensed Under the capable direction of Sister Raymond and staff, dancing was indulged in to bright music, supplied by the Gaiety Dance Band and Mr Patuaka. A bag-pipes extra by Mr Frew was greatly appreciated. Mr J. Young ably carried out the duties of M.C. The cake competition was won by Mr L.
