DISTRICT NEWS.

REIKORANOH WOMEN'S INSTITUTE The Reikorangi-Waikanae Women's Institute held their monthly meeting at Reikorangi on Thursday .(July 6th) when Miss Mowbray presided over a very large attendance, many visitors being present. After the Institute song, the minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mrs. McLean, of Paraparaumu, demonstrated pine-needle work. A vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, was accorded Mrs. McLean. The cooking competition of six jam tarts was won by Miss Campion, Miss Mowbray second, Mrs. Udy third. The best decorated coathanger resulted in Miss Campion first, Miss Carter second, Mrs. Chapman third. Community singing was very much enjoyed during the afternoon. The hostesses were Mesdames Mills, S. Monk and Miss Kent. The National Anthem brought the afternoon to a close. SOCIAL AT HAUTERE|

I The first of the series of euchre and dances, held on Wednesday evening, in the Hautere hall, proved a great success. The music, supplied by Rikihana orchestra (piano and violin), was much appreciated. Mr. L. Styles was an efficient M.C. while Mr. C. Strom proved equally efficient in charge of the euchre. The ladies' first prize was won by Mrs. A. Thomson, Mrs. Rockett securing the consolation. The gents' first prize went to Mr. E. Thomson and the consolation to Mr. H. Jensen. - Supper was dispensed and much appreciated. The after supper euchre was won by Mrs. Duggan (first), Mrs. Rockett (consolation); gents' first was won by Mr. Ted Lyne, and consolation by Master Furse. Readers are reminded that the next evening of the series will be on the 19th inst. (fortnightly) and any wishing to compete for the points prize may still get in, owing to the club having one throwout in the fire series. Take advantage of the free bus, Otaki and To Horo, and enjoy a cheap evening and compete for the good prizes. Keep the 19th fresh in your memories and help to make z bumper house.
