WILL NOT PLAY.

MAORI RUGBY STARS. TOKOMARU BAY, July 8. A bombshell was thrown in. East Coast Rugby circles by the refusal of George Nepia to play full-back in defence of the Barry Cup against Poverty Bay on Saturday. After the announcement of the team last Saturday, Nepia was talking with a correspondent, and gave no indication that he would not be playing. He chatted regarding the next fixture, and appeared quite satisfied with the team.

In a letter to the secretary of the East Coast Rugby Union, N«pia said that he would not 'be able to play because the loss of time on his farm would cost him too much.

Immediately after Nepia's announcement, .Wanoa, a Maori All Black, and forward player, notified the selectors that he was not available. The selectors immediately announced the new players, with additional emergencies.
