EGG EXPORT ORGANISED.

CENTRAL COMMITTEE SET UP. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TAKES INITIATIVE. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday.

A conference of egg-marketing agents and' poultry producers, convened by the Department of Agriculture, was held yesterday, Dr. Eeakes presiding.

Dr, Eeakes said - the conference was called to discuss ways and means of organising the export of surplus eggs during the coming season in order to prevent the collapse of the local market as a result of the seasonal glut. For varying reasons, principally on account -of the low expenses, and providing there was a reasonably profitable market, poultry farming must continue to be a valuable adjunct and importa'nt factor in the success of small holdings. The only way to maintain a profitable market in the flush of the season was to organise the export of the unconsumable surplus. After reports of what was being done at various parts had been made by delegates, Dr. Eeakes said a central committee located in Wellington, with authority to act on behalf of four provincial committees, was essential in order that the reservation of shipping space and other activities could be carried out expeditiously. He suggested that the committee should consist. of one representative of the marketing agents, one of the producers, and one of the Department. This was unanimously adopted.

Messrs F. Picot and J. N. McLean were appointed to represent the marketing agents and producers respectively and it was subsequently announced that Mr A. Ironside would represent the Department, It was resolved that the expenses of the Central Committee should be borne, on a pro rata basis, by the four provincial committees.
