South Africans’ Lead on Auckland
TWO CENTURIES TO VISITORS
AUCKLAND, Last Night,
The match between the South Africans and Auckland was continued at Eden Park to-day, the visitors passing Auckland's first innings total with two wickets in hand.
The previous day Auckland scored 296 for eight wickets. Continuing today, chiefly through Matheson, who was unbeaten "with S 3, Auckland carried the total to 842,
The visitors did not start well, but a splendid third wicket partnership between Mitchell and Taylor added 167 runs. Taylor played brilliant cricket, compiling a century, and Mitchell played a stubborn defensive game for 122 not out. Allcott finished with five wickets for 72 runs. The conditions were good except that several - deliveries kept low. The gate takings for the first two days were £lOl and £lB5 respectively. AUCKLAND.—First Innings.
