German Financier Disappears
balance-sheets falsified Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m, . BERLIN, Nov. 21. Willi Sifert, one of the chief directors of the Bank of Trade, dealing in house property, which has suspended payment, has disappeared, apparently before the police surrounded his villa. Criminal proceedings had begun. A preliminary inquiry shows that the balance-sheets were systematically falsified. Problematical values of sites were booked as debts due. Thirty-six thousand house-owners had invested their life savings. The bank crash has an important political bearing, as the chairman of the supervising board is one of the leaders of the Business Men’s Party, which recently saved Dr. Bruening from the attack launched by the Nationalists.
