Bringing Their Gifts to the Altar
_— <» ' REMARKABLE SCENE IN BAPTIST MISSIONARY RALLY '- WELLINGTON, Last Night, bracelets, bank notes, gold, silver coins, watches, s'ilver*teapots, rings and ornaments of all kinds filled a large clear glass flower bowl in front of the pulpit, of the Vivian street Baptist Church, this evening. When the bowl was filled the gifts were piled upon j the table on which the receptacle was resting. The occasion was . the missionary offering at the Baptist conference. The president, Rev. F W. Gaze, intimated tha.t : the • congregation might bring their gifts and place them in the flower ; bowl,, and in response delegates and frieMS arose and went forward from all ji&tii, of the audience. They came threading thei* way through the pews and .down aisles to the front to make tkeir offerings for the missionary work which the Baptist Church i? carrying on M India*. Not all the gifts were jeweitlejcy and trinkets. One of the donations. comprised several floor rugs, the offering of a poor hard-working' 'woman who, it is stated, had made them herself?
