PAYOUT OF ELEVENPENCE.
SEPTEMBER SUPPLIES TO LEVINBUTTER FACTORY. PRODUCTION CHECKED BY LATE- ' NESS OF SPRING. The payout to suppliers to the Levin Co-operative Dairy Co.'s factory for September butter-fat was fixed by the directors yesterday at lid per lb. for finest grade. This is a reduction of Id on the rate for the previous month and for September, 1930. The top price on the London market for New Zealand butter on Tuesday was 122 s per cwt., the same as it was a year ago, when the gold standard was still in foyce. Under the present, unsettled conditions of world finance, it is appropriate that companies should keep their advances on the conservative side, especially as the quantities of butter afloat are now becoming substantial, while the market outlook is rather obscure. Dairymen have still a hard row to hoe, complicated this year by a delayed, spring. If the warm sunny weather that has supervened is the precursor of a dry summer, the lessoix of feed conservation will be learnt to the full. The output of ,the Levin factory from the beginning of the .present season, in June, till the end of August showed an increase of 1 per cent, over the corresponding four months of last year, but in the month just past there was a fallingoff of 14.8 per cent, as compared with September, 1930. The warmth interspersed with spring rains in the last week has happily had a rapid" effect for the (better on the pastures, but the daily "make" is still behind what it was at this time last year, being- 207 boxes (o tons 3£ cwt.) 'as against. 220 boxes.
