COUNTY RATES REDUCED
CONCESSION OF OVER £3OOO. SMALL RIDING SURPLUSES BUDGETED FOR. PENALTY POSTPONED TILL END OF JUNE. All-round reductions in the general rate were decided on at the annual meeting of the Horowhenua County Council yesterday. The levies on the £ of capital value for the current year will he as follows, the rates for the past year being shown in parentheses:— Tokomaru, £d (|d). Wirokino, 23-32 d (27-32 d). Otald, £d (|d). ( Te Horo, 11-16 d (|d). The hospital rate, which is levied over the whole County, will be 13-64 d, as against 7-32 d last year. The rates for the water-race district remain on the same basis as in the previous year. The reductions in the general rate represent a total saving to the ratepayers of £3034, but surpluses are necessarily budgeted for in the accounts of all the ridings, and these, as estimated, total £2315. The charging of the 10 per cent, penalty on last year’s unpaid rates has been postponed till June 30th, and such charges already made in this respect are to be remitted. A comprehensive report of the proceedings will be published later.
