Best Milling Wheat Offered for Years

SOUTH ISLAND OROPS. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Samples of wheat are now freely offering to merchants and millers. An interesting feature is that despite the fact of an irregular season, some milling wheat has been offered of a quality which has not been seen by millers for a number of years. The best yields to date have come from North Canterbury. The effect of the hard season has been evidenced more in the crops of mid-Canterbury, but recent favourable Aveather has been beneficial to the later crops and crops and reports indicate that those will produce some good yields. There is little interest in the market for milling wheat and any business is on a basis of 5/3 to 5/4 per bushel on trucks. The quotation for foAvl wheat has firmed a little and to-day is 5/1 f.o.b. (s.e.) The oats market remains quiet. The potato market is firm with no change in values to report, and speculate business is on the basis of £4/7/6 per ton f.o.b. (s.e.); equivalent to about £3/7/6 ton on trucks. The onion market is firm with growers inclined to hold.
