DEATH FROM SUFFOCATION
EVERY EFFORT WAS MADE AT RESCUE.

An inquest was held to-day, concern ing the death of William Mitchell, who lost his life when a lire occurred at his residence in the early hours of Sunday morning. Nurse Fraser stated that she was employed by deceased to nurse his daughter. Shortly after midnight witness found the home afire and awakened the others. All got out safely but later deceased returned to the house for some 'purpose. Constable Grant stated that deceased was found in a sitting position in the bedroom of his invalid daughter. Dr. Putman deposed that deceased had been suffering from heart trouble. On the night of the fire, Deputy Superintendent Milverton of the brigade went into the building at the risk of his own life in an endeavour to get deceased. Death was due to suffocation and burning. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, adding that ho was satisfied every effort was made by the brigade to rescue him.
