TRAGEDY ON CANADIAN BORDER.

DRUNKEN TAUNTS CAUSE WOMAN’S DEATH.

(Sun Special.) WINNIPEG, Thursday. A Canadian policeman shot an American woman visitor in an embarrassing quarrel near the international boundary this evening. The Premier of Manitoba (Mr Bracken), was a witness, and many important officials were present. The occasion was the linking of the highway systems of the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan in the presence of 6000 visitors, many being from the United States. Many of the latter became boisterous with Canadian liquor, openly insulting Constable Prien, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Baiting him repeatedly, they dared him to shoot/ The officer foolishly drew his gun, and in the melee it was discharged, fatally shooting Mrs v Sophie Light, wife of the President of the Board of Trade of the town of Epwitch, Dakota. Constable Prien immediately submitted to arrest.
