Health Insurance Needed for Medical Service
PROFESSOR HARVEY SMITH’S
ADVOCACY
Received Wednesday, 7.0 p.m. VANCOUVER, Aug. 26
A message from Winnipeg states that the Medical Association opened its conference there to-day with two thousand medical men present. The opening ceremonies included Professor Harvey Smith’s presidential address and impressive religious services. Professor Smith, in his address, i tressed the fact that the economic organisation of medicine had not kept pace with its scientific progress. He pointed out that 30 per cent of the patients were treated free by physicians, and advocated a system' of health insurance as the only method by which a competent medical service may be placed within the reach of all on a satisfactory basis.
