WAR BOGEY IN FRANCE.
GERMAN LEADERS ENCOURAGE PEACE Received Wednesday, 9.10 p.m. PARIS, Aug. 27. In French election speeches the references to foreign policy are notably quieter in tome, but this is not reflected in the Paris press. The Petit Journal, one of the most moderate, warns the French people that the German demand for reshaping the map of Europe to Germany’s advantage cannot bo achieved except by force. “Those desiring a revision of the treaty desire war. Germany at present is unready to force her demand for a revision. It may be ten'or twelve years before a clash becomes imminent.’’ It is significant that Dr. Curtins, German Foreign Minister, in his initial speech," championed the late Herr Strosemann’s policy of international understanding with courage. Even Herr Treviranus, who recently declared that a revision of the eastern frontier was urgent, has now climbed down, admitting that the subject could not at present bo raised. Several Paris newspapers welcome the fact that some of the loading German, publicists have come into the open with demands for treaty revision as being calculated to convince the wavorers of the real underlying motives c.f Ghrman policy.
