LAWN TENNIS.
BLACK CAT V. WERAROA. A match between the Black Cat and Weraroa Tennis Clubs was played on the Weraroa courts yesterday afternoon and resulted in a win for the former club by seven set* to five. Owing to the onset of rain late in the day, it was not possible to play the combined doubles. Prior to that the conditions wore calm, and the games were much enjoyed. An acceptable afternoon tea was provided by the Weraroa club. Following are the results of play, Weraroa players being mentioned first: — t, Ladies’ Singles. —Miss Wheeler beat Mrs G —s; Mrs Mackay lost to Miss Ilislop, 3 —6; Mrs Boulton beat Mrs Wallace, 6—3; Mrs Williams lost to Miss Dunn, 2—6. Ladies’ Doubles. —Miss Wheeler and Mrs Mackay lost to Mrs Adkin and Miss Ilislop, 3 —6; Mrs Boulton and Mrs Williams beat Mrs Vallance and Mies Dunn, 6—2. Men’s Singles—Mackay lost to Bull, 2—6; Hanson beat 'Variance, 6—i; Palmer lost to Cole, 3—6; Curtis beat James, 6—o. Men’s Doubles.—Mackay and Curtis lost to Bull and James, 2—6; Hanson and Palmer lost to Vallance and Colo, 5 — 6.
