SEDITIOUS BOOKS.
COMMUNIST SBCBETARV PINED? VIOLENCE ADVOCATED (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, This Day. As a result of a raid by Detectives at his house, Onehunga, on July 14th, when numbers of books were seiye.d, Sidney Scott, aged 1 28, student, grocer: and secretary of the Auckland branch of the Communist Party, came before Mr Hunt, S.M., at the police court this morning, charged with: having -in his possession -for sale and for distribution books entitled “Elements, of Political Education,’ ’ and “Party Training Manual,” which advocated violence and expressed-seditious intentions. Ho, was also charged with importing these books. Scott admitted the first and third charges and pleaded not guilty to. the second. ’ ' Mr Hubble, Crown Solicitor, described the book “Elements of Political Education” as one of the most violent books published. He said th%t the other books was intended merely to stir up -class hostility. Four volumes of the “Elements” book wore found and 12 of the “Party Manual.” Counsel for accused said he had no intention of distributing the books, but the Magistrate held that he did and imposed,a fine of £5 on the first charge, and convicted and-ordered Scott to pay costs on the third charge. Decision was reserved in the second charge.
