LEVIN * RESIDENT NOMINATED FOR SOUTHERN MAORI SEAT. Mr Tuiti Macdonald, of Levin, was selected, at a conference, of representatives of the Southern Maori electors held in Wellington last week, to stand for that electorate in the United Partyinterests. He will bo present at the meeting in Bt. Mary’s Hall to-morrow afternoon in support of Mr P. J. Small’s candidature for Manawatu, at which he will be pleased to meet Native voters of this electorate. BGMONT CONTEST. (By Telegraph—Press Association). HAWEBA, This Day. Mr C. A. Wilkinson, of Eltham, who is contesting the .Egmont seat as an Independent against the Hon. O. J. Hawken, opened his'campaign last evening with an address at Auroa. Mr Wilkinson represented Egmont from 1912 to 1919 as a Reformer. He attacked the Government on the grounds of high and inequitable taxation, lack or economy, excessive borrowing, interference in business, and suffering the control of Government by officials. On the licensing- question he supported the bare majority with two-issue ballot paper and an extension of time between polls to six years. He reserved the right to; associate himself with any party which* might arise which, iu his opinion, appeared likely best to serve the common interests. THE OTAKI SEAT. MB. W. DYER THE UNITED CANDIDATE. A representative deputation waited on Mr. Walter Dyer, of Epuni, on Friday evening, and. asked him to allow himsejf to be nominated for the Otaki seat as a United Party candidate. Mr. Dyer expressed his thanks, and consented to stand. Mr. Dyer is a Justice of the Peace, a member of the Hutt County ' Council, a member of the Waterworks Board, chairman of the Eastern Hutt School Committee, and a member of the Lower Hutt Dental Elinic, as well as being associated with several sports bodies. He is a builder and contractor. REFORM CANDIDATES. The Prime Minister has given his endorsement, of the candidature iu the interests of the Reform Party of Mr Frank Adeaaio for the Auckland West seat, and of Mr. Bertram Bunn for the Manukau seat.
