A message" from Hardin (Montana) states than Mr. Curtis, in a political address, comparing the position of wool In the United States under the Underwood and Fordney-McCumber tariffs, said the imports of clothing wool were more than 15 times as great r» 1927 as in 1921. He said the arguments that tariff increased the cost of American clothing were .groundless and added that he saw no reason why:*; the excess 0? imports over exports of'wool, which in 1927 reached 285,000,000 pounds, should continue with millions of acres oi' land available, for raising sheep. He concluded, that in July, 1928; a pound of wool raised by the American' farmer had 39 per cent, more purchasing power of non-agriculture commodities than 4he *»«wr.
