WAIKANAE RAILWAY STATION
+ ——— IMPROVEMENTS WANTED. 5* 1 For, some time Mr. W. H., Field, M.P.y has been endeavouring to secure muchneeded improvement at the Waikanae railway station, and the following letter has uow been received. Although it is not over- satisfactory Waikanae residents will no doubt appreciate the work to be carried out. The letter from the Minister of Railways to Mr. Field reads as follows; — “Minister's Office, Wellington,. September 17th, 1928. Dear Sir,—With reference to the recent representations made by you regarding the provision of additional accommodation at Waikanae station. * 1 The present building at Waikanae is unsuitable for any structural alteration and the provision of a ladies waiting room would necessitate the erection of a separate building which just at pre cannot be proceeded with as all available; f are alio-, bated ■ to more urgent and important works. It has, however, been decided to provide protection- for passenger* by placing a door on the present lobby; and this w4U be put in hand. “There is insufficient passenger traffic at Waikanae to warrant the erection of a verandah oyer the platform and it ie considered that the present accommodation with the provision of a door on the vestibule will meet the position until such time as funds are available for further improvements.’ —Yours faithfully, O. OOATEO, Minister of Railways."
