RUGBY FOOTBALL.

HOROWHENUA DISTRICT COUNCIL. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held in the Wistaria rooms last evening, there being present: Messrs W. Hannan (president), A. Richards (Shannon), 11. McDonald (Schools), J. W. Procter (Hui Mai), S. Hooper (Weraroa), F. Robinson (Hautere), E. M. Ryder (Wanderers), G. Mitchell (Shannon), M. Winiata (senior selector), J. \V, Rimmer (treasurer), and J. Casey (secretary.) Leave of absence was granted Mr W. S. Joyce (Weraroa). Mr W. G. Hayward, secretary of the Hautere club, wrote notifying the Council that H. Windley fractured a collar-bone in the match Otaki v. Hautere, on May 19th.—Received. SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. Permission was sought by the Miranui club to enter two junior sides in the Manawatu Seven-a-side Tournament.

Mr Richards moved and Mr Procter seconded that all clubs in the district desirous of entering teams in the tournament be granted leave to do so. —Carried. A and B. REP. MATCHES AGAINST MANAWATU. Mr C. D. Fraser, secretary of the Manawhenua Union, wrote stating that, at the last meeting of the executive, it was decided to recommend to each Rugby Council that, when the senior representative game was being played a “B” representative game be played as a curtain-raiser to the “A” game (to be played at Shannon on July 13th). Provided this could be arranged, the Union would pay £7 10s towards the assembly expenses of Horowhenua*s “B” team. The idea of the game was to give the selectors a chance of seeing a larger number of players in action than in previous years. Mr Procter asked if the B match could not be played at Levin instead of at Shannon, and commence at 1 p.m. Mr Robinson said he was afraid that this would draw the crowd away from the “A” match at Shannon.

Mr Procter pointed but that if the day was wet, it would not be possible to play two matches in the one day at Shannon.

The Chairman said that they would have to take the risk of rain. The idea originally was that the two matches should be played on the same ground. Mr Robinson said that the proposal to hold a “B” match was an excellent one, because it would encourage the “B” men to go in for high-stand-ard Rugby and would also enable the selectors to pick out an extra back or forward, such as were often required. It was decided that the Manawatu District Council be communicated with, asking them to put a team in the field to meet Horowhenua “B” on July 13th. This match is to be played at Shannon at 1 p.m., and the “A” rep. match at 2.45 p.m. CONCERN ING IN SUE AN CE.

The committee resolved to write to the Fox ton Club giving notice that insurance will not hold good until it is in the hands either of the -referee or the secretary of the District Council.

QUESTION OF TRANSFER. Mr W. G. Hayward, secretary of the Hautere club, wrote applying for the transfer of R. H. Fielding from Hui Mai thirds to Hautere. He stated that Fielding took part in one game for Hui Alai cm April 21st, since when he had removed to Hautere, and now that Hui Mai thirds had withdrawn from the contests he desired to play for Hautere.

The Chairman said that the rules provided that there should not be any transfer after the first round.

Both Mr Ryder find Mr Robinson contended that such a regulation imposed hardship on young players. Mr Casey stated that it was resolved last year that no transfer be granted after 'the first cup fixture. The Chairman admitted that the rule seemed hard, but said that the Council must abide by it. A resolution was passed, on the motion of Mr Ryder, seconded by Mr Procter, that the transfer asked for be not granted. INSURANCE. OF COUNCIL’S PRO-

PERTY. The secretary reported that the shield, cups and trophies had been insured. It was decided that the rep, jurseys also be insured, provided that the premium does not exceed ss. MAORI-PAKBHA MATCH.

A vote of thanks was passed to the Manawhcnua Union for its gift of the which will be worn by the Pakcha old set of green-and-white jerseys, team in the match against the Maoris, to be played at Shannon on Wednesday, June 13th. 1 DEAD-BALL LINES.

With regard to the playing ground on the Levin Domain, it was decided that the dead-ball line be an equal distance from the goal-line at each end, but not to encroach on the asphalt. The question of other grounds in the district possibly being unable to provide the full depth of 25 yards for the dead-ball line was brought up, and it was resolved that in such cases the line must be of equal depth at each end of the field. FOXTON GROUND AND GATE. Mr Robinson reported that the Foxton club had brought its ground into very good order, fenced it, and properly ad justed; the ineasurements. He suggested that someone be appointed to supervise the gate. . The committee decided that the Foxton club be-written asking if they are carrying out the supervision 0f.,, the gate’ as promised to the Council; also ■that the Club be instructed to forward the gross takings to the Council weekly, prior to Tuesday evenings. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MATCHES. ■. Permission was granted to Mr McDonald for the primary schools to use the Levin Park Domain on Saturday mornings. COMBINED REP. MATCHES.
