N.Z. BOWLERS ABROAD.

VISIT TO THE CONTINENT. In an interesting letter to Mr Walter Bull, Mr M. J. Suhan, Levin’s representative with the N.Z. bowling team, gives a brief account of the visit to France and Italy. Writing in Borne on March 29th, he said the party disomoarked from the Orvieto at Toulon on March 23rd, and went by rail to Nice on the Riviera, where they spent two days. A day was spent in a visit by motor to Mentone, the route lying over Napoleon’s road over the Alps, reputedly the finest road in the world. The day being perfect, a very enjoyable time was spent. Half-a-day was put in in Monte Carlo and the New Zealanders visited all the attractions including the Casino, having a good look round the tables. Monte Carlo impressed them all with its wonderful prosperity. There were no beggars and no one paid rates or taxes, the Prince of Monaco meeting all administrative charges. One point of great interest in Monte Carlo was a wonderful show of motor cars —Rolls Boyces, Chryslers, and all the best Continental.,?,, makes paraded before the Casino, last prize going to a Mercedes 7-seater, From Nice the tourists went to Genoa and spent an afternoon sight seeing by motor-car, proceeding on March 28th to Rome by rail, a journey of 350 miles completed in eight hours. On their first day in Rome the Now Zealanders visited St. Peter’s Cathedral, the Colosseum, and the Catacombs. Next day a visit to the Vatican was contemplated. The Italian food was taking a good deal of getting used to —“too much macaroni and raw vegetables” —to suit the New Zealanders, who, however, enjoyed the French style. The party numbered 52 and were looking forward to the remainder of their Continental tour of the Italian Lakes, Switzerland and France, which was planned as follows: April Ist and 2nd.—Florence; April 3rd, 4th and sth,—Venice; April 6th,—Milan; April. 7th and Bth.—Como; April 9th,— Reliagio and Menaggio; April 10th, —Lugano; April llth Lucerne and the ascent of the Rigi by rack-railway; April 12th, —Interlaken and Grindolwald; April 13th, — Montreux; ;April 14th—Geneva; Auril 15th,—Leave for Paris, where font clays were to be spent, leaving for London on April 20th.
