DALMATIAN GAMING HOUSE.

RAIDED IN AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Thirty-two men were arrested at 10.30 o'clock on Saturday evening as the result of a raid by the police on premises in Victoria Street occupied by a Dalmatian. When Senior Detective Hammond approached the gate at the rear of the premises a torch was flashed in his face by the occupier, whom he seized around the neck. Another man came to the captive's assistance, but after a scuffle the detective forced an entrance.

The occupier called out loudly in Dalmation while' he was -struggling. The detectives found about twenty men iii a large room, some rushing upstairs and other attempting to escape by the front door, but the premises were completely surrounded by the police and only one escaped, though several climbed on to the verandah and roofs of adjoining premises.

The detectives found tables covered with heavy cloths and chairs for about twenty men, dice, dice boxes, cards and counters.

A Dalmatian named Maria. Glavas is charged with keeping a common gaming house, and thirty-one men with being on the premises without lawful excuse.
