Mr Smuts, speaking at Paard Kraal, thanked Mr Hertzog for what he had done to bring unity among the people. He said Mr Hertzog had dene what no one else could do. His attitude towards the British Empire had totally changed and his followeis had changed with him. They were not now going to strive for a Republic, but they "were satisfied with the position as it existed to-day.
