LEVIN SALEYARDS.
EXTENSIVE CONCRETING UNDER CONSIDERATION. For some time past the stock-firms operating in Levin have appreciated the need for improving the local saleyards, and definite proposals lor concreting the pens and yards have now been formulated and await the formal approval of "the Associated Auctioneers. It is, expected that the work will be commenced in the near future. Of the double row of pens ranged alongside Salisbury Street the left • hand row, together with the two receiving yards at either end and the race, will be concreted as in the opinion of the Health Department these will be sufficient to meet requirements. Any overflow of stock from these pens will take place in the summer and will not cause any serious cutt-ing-up of the ground in the unconcreted pens. In the winter the left-hand pens would, in most circumstances, accommodate ail the stock submitted for auction. The sheep pens near the pig pavilion, known as the fat pens, and the race, are also included in the new scheme. The whole of the pens, etc., are to be connected with guttering and provision made for drainage. The whole of the woodwork in the middle pens is to bo renovated and thoroughly put in order. 'Hie' result should be a great improvement on present conditions and wall be greatly appreciated by .all users of the saleyards.
