IHAKARA NOTES.

(From our awn Correspondent.) The north part of the Arapaepue Road at lhakara which is included in the main highways scheme, is being heavily metalled, making it rather unpleasant lor motorists but the promise of permanent bitumen sealed roads will be some compensation for the present conditions. A most pleasant function was held in the lhakara Hall last night in the form of a gift evening tendered to Mr R. Hodge and Miss T. Taylor, who are shortly to be married. The hall was filled to its utmost capacity, the attendance totalling somewhere in" the vicinity of 150. Several of those in attendance contributed towards the success ol the evening by rendering musical items and recitations which were greatly appreciated. A Wasteful supper was arranged by the | ladies who also cheerfully supplied the music. Dancing was the chief form of amusement and was carried on till the early hours <s>'f the morning. The guests of honour were the recipients of many useful and valuable presents, as well as the good wishes of all those present. The singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows” brought a most enjoyable and memorable evening to a close.
