SETTLEMENT IN THE WEST.
f (Received This Day, 10.27 a.m.) PERTH, July 17. A Royal Commission has recommended the abandonment of the group settlement scheme in the south west, the conditions for wives being such as to drive men off the land. There was evidence that not more than fifty per cent, would succeed and up to April :11st last, 31 per cent, of I,he migrants and ,41 per cent, of Australians had left.
