BIG FIRE IN BLENHEIM.
SHOPS DESTROYED, HOTEL GUTTED. (Per Press Association.) Blenheim, August 5. About 4.30 this morning, a fire broke out in the business quarters of the town. It commenced in the fruit shop occupied by Mervyn Patchett, and thence spread to the other side to the tobacconist shop of Gordon Sowman, and the Masonic Hotel (licensee Andrew Tucker). Both shops were completely destroyed, and the hotel wa.s bady gutted' in the upstairs portion.
