FOSSILISED TREE

Craggy Range Discovery ANOTHER UNIQUE FIND The discovery of a quantity of fossilised vegetation was made recently In the same cave as that in which a moa’s egg was found a few weeks ago, this being where Lime Hydrates Lfd., are operating at Craggy Range. That area at the present time is quite free from heavy timber, but the discovery indicates that at one time in the past it was heavily wooded. A piece of the fossilised vegetation, which is now on view in Mr N. R. C. Wilson’s chemist’s shop window, Heretamnga street, Hastings, consists of part of the root system of a tree. It is extremely delicate in appearance, and resembles a piece of Chinese ivory carving, the tracery of the minute tendrils being plainly visible.
