Captain L. Forde, of Tikokino, was appointed to the committee of the Automobile Association (H. 8. at its annual meeting. Mr A. C, Crawford, Hastings Borough traffic inspector, begins his annual leave next Monday. Mr. W. Crawford, national lecturer of the Theosophical Society, arrived in Hastings by tho mail train yesterday. Mr John Peel, a member of the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club having successfully passed the examination and tests, has' been licensed as a commercial air pilot, class B. Mr L, Pickering and Mr R. M. Chadwick (secretary of the Napier Chamber- of Commere) will represent the Chamber at the annual conference in Wellington of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, to be held on November 20. Mr J. G. C, Mackenzie, Hastings borough superintendent of reserves, is officially to represent the Hastings Bor ough Gounei' at the conference of chairmen of rescues committees and park superintendents at Christchurch commencing on January 26 next.
Cr. T. Falconer, chairman of the Hastings borough library committee, was appointed last night as the Hastings Borough Council's representative at the biennial conference of the New Zealand Libraries Association, to be held at Wellington on November 16 next.
'The recent passing of Mrs 11. Wellwood, first Mayoress of Hastings, was briefly referred to at tho meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening when the deputy-Mayor, Cr. A. I, Bainbow, paid a tribute to the sterling character of the late Mrs Wellwood, and asaed the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddi ■son, a son-in-law of the first mayoress, to convey the council’s condolences and sympathy to the relatives.
