LATE MAORI PRINCESS
Prime Minister Telegraphs Sympathy The Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage has telegraphed as follows to Mr. Bob Tutaki in reply to an invitation to be present at the tangi over Chieftainess Pukepuke Tangiora:— “I want to express my thanks to you for the kind invitation, conveyed through Mr. Cullen, M.P., to attend the tangi over Chieftainess Pukepuke Tangiora, but regret ‘ that official duties and engagements will not permit of my attending the tangi. Mr. Cullen will, however, represent me and the Government.
“Th e call has come to Tangiora and she has answered it and passed on to the world of night to comingle with her illustrious forebears of the great Kahungunu tribe who preceded her. She will be missed by her people in Hawke’s Bay. Please convey to her family and tribes the sympathy of myself and the Government in their sad bereavement.’’
