FAT SHEEP PRICES

Market Shows Little Change LAMBS HARD TO QUIT The market for fat sheep at Stortford Lodge yesterday showed little change, except for spring lam Ds which were in oversupply and hard to quit, buyers showing no inclination of exceeding the freezing schedule. The best prime wethers sold to 27/8 and the top lines of prime heavy ewes to 23/9. Several pens of inferior ewes were offered and these were down as low as 16/-. The pick of the spring lambs made 26/-, but few lots were sold. A number of light and second quality sorts realised about 20/-. Prices were offered as under for selected lots:—

On account of Mrs H. Carlson, Pukehou, 26 extra heavy prime shorn ewes made 22/-. On account of Mr T. V. Long, Waimarama, 17 4, 6 and 8-tooth primequality shorn heavy ewes made 23/9. On account of the same vendor, 13 well-done prime ewes made 23/-, On account of .Mr D. Ritchie, Havelock North, eight nicely-grown jjrime spring lambs made to 26/-. On account of the same vendor, six lighter lambs made 22/9. On account of Mr J. Heeney, eight prime shorn medium wethers made 23/9. In from Taradale six extra-prime young medium-weight wethers were purchased by Mr J. B. Fletcher at 24/4. In off the Poukawa swamp, six small black-faced lambs were passed at 20/-.

A pen of nine well-woolled heavy prime ewes made 30/-. Two pens of light unfinished aged ewes realised 17/3. A pen of extra prime young Southdown ewes, exceptionally choice wellselected mutton, was purchased by the Hawke’s Bay Butchery Co. at 23/4. Two pens of small-grown secondquality. lambs were passed at 20/-, Thirteen early shorn medium prime ewes made 19/9. A bid of 27/8 was offered for a fine entry of 20 weighty prime quality shorn wethers. On account of Mr S. Collison, Poukawa, 14 well-finished ewes made 23/6. Other pens from the same vendor met with a keen sale, one line of prime Down cross ewes making 23/6.
